Eligibility Of Applicants

Eligible candidates (Young Investigators) with demonstrated experience in basic science or clinical research must be licensed physicians (with or without a PhD) who have completed medical school within the past 10 years and

  1. are currently enrolled in the later years of a cardiology fellowship program (their first year of funding must be in at least their second year of fellowship)

  2. are junior faculty

  3. have completed their cardiology specialty training within the past 3 years (international).

If the above criteria are not met, the application will not be accepted for review.

Applicants with ongoing grants are not precluded from participation in the GSK Research and Education Foundation for Cardiovascular Disease International Competitive Grants Award Program. Details of current grants should be provided and overlaps with current application will be judged individually. Applicants may also continue from a third-year fellowship into a junior faculty position, provided the same study will be continued and receives written consent from the committee.




Research Areas

Basic science and clinical research will be considered in all cardiovascular therapeutic areas, such as:
  • Atherosclerosis
  • Dyslipidemia
  • Thrombosis
  • Arrhythmia
  • Hypertension
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Stroke
  • Diabetes

Disciplines in cardiovascular research that will be considered include, but are not restricted to:
  • Imaging
  • Molecular biology
  • Genetics, genomics
  • Health economics
  • Myocardial metabolism
  • Integrated physiology
  • Rheology of hemodynamics
  • Stem-cell transplantation
  • Visionary research (ie, novel risk factors, database analysis, and genetic epidemiology)
