Program Objectives

Following this CME symposium, the cardiologist should be able to:
  • Distinguish between the beneficial and adverse effects of various β-blockers in patients with hypertension and identify patient characteristics that guide treatment selection
  • List appropriate treatments for patients with comorbid heart failure and diabetes mellitus
  • Describe the impact that renal dysfunction has on the progression of heart failure and identify strategies to improve patient outcomes
  • Explain the role of various biomarkers as diagnostic and prognostic indicators of heart failure and how monitoring of these biomarkers can be applied to the management of cardiovascular disease
  • Discuss the use of various imaging techniques in monitoring progression of cardiovascular disease.
